Karnataka Udyogini Scheme

Karnataka Udyogini Scheme-: The program was launched in 1997-1998 (and modified in between 2004 and 2005), Udyogini is an innovative program that was approved by the Government of Karnataka to assist women to achieve independence and self-reliance through self-employment, mostly through trade and service. It also offers the subsidy of loans from the Karnataka State Women’s Development Corporations for business-related activities or micro-businesses through bank and various financial institutions. Loans are granted through financial institutions, such as commercial banks and district cooperative banks as well as Regional Rural Banks (RRBs).

Without a formal financial system for credit, females will get loans from private borrowers and then pay the highest interest rates. Therefore, there was that it was necessary to put official channels for credit that can be used by women. Businesses that are profitable are deemed to be eligible and subsidized under this scheme. These could include bookbinding and notebook manufacturing as well as chalk and crayon manufacturing jam and jelly production, pickles manufacturing papad production, saree, embroidery printing and dyeing clothing, as well as woolen weaving among others. Udyogini offers a wide range of opportunities for women in these categories to enable them to get a job as a self-employed.
