Karnataka Shuchi Scheme :- In India, the Shuchi Scheme is an initiative by the Karnataka Government. It will provide sanitary products to girls in school. The program, which aims to educate the public about menstruation and provide girls with sanitary products, has been put on hold for 3 years. Dinesh G. Rao, Minister for Health and Family Welfare, addressed an audience in Mangaluru on September 11, after launching a trial programme to distribute free menstruation cups in government and government-aided college as part of Shuchi Nanna Maithri. The pilot project is being implemented in the districts of Dakshina Kannada, and Chamarajanagar.
Karnataka Shuchi Scheme 2024
In 2013, the first distribution of sanitary napkins was made to female students. The previous BJP government neglected to supply sanitary napkins to female students for the last three years. Dinesh Rao, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, said that the government would once again provide sanitary pads to schoolgirls through the Shuchi scheme. The administration has published tenders for sanitary pads distribution that will begin next month. Sapthami Gowda, a Kantara-based national swimmer who is well known for her struggles with periods, said she too had to face many challenges. Sapthami is the ambassador of the Shuchi-Nanna Maithri Menstrual Cups Programme. Girls shouldn’t be held back because of their menstrual periods, because they excel at all aspects.
Only 60 students used the cups in the first 30 days, indicating a lower acceptance rate. Moms sometimes resisted the use of menstruation cup by children. The mothers also received counseling from health department therapists. After the pilot, out of 300 total students, 272 agreed to use menstrual cup and were already using them.
Karnataka Government renews initiative of providing free sanitary pads for 19 lakh girls at schools and colleges
The Karnataka Government revived Shuchi on Wednesday after it had been halted for four years. This program is vital for the health and hygiene of female students. As part of this programme, approximately 19 lakh female teenagers from schools and colleges received free sanitary pads. Karnataka Health Department will provide free sanitary pads to over 19 lakh girls (aged between 10 and 18) in schools and colleges that are government-funded or assisted.
The health department will personally deliver sanitary napkins to the school. Each kit would include a pack of 10 sanitary napkins. For a full year, the female students will be provided with enough napkins. The government will give away sanitary napkins for free to 19 lakh girls in school and college from homes with extremely low incomes.

The process of disposing of sanitary pads is extremely difficult. Even in Bengaluru, an important metropolis, the proper disposal of sanitary pad is a problem. In the average woman’s period, she produces around 200 kg of waste. This contributes to the environmental degradation. Menstrual cups are the best choice because they last for about eight years. Women are increasingly using menstrual cups. Girls would miss five days of school.
